Dwunastoletnia Berenika Borkowska od urodzenia walczy z konsekwencjami rozszczepu kręgosłupa i wodogłowia. Przeszła już dziewięć operacji, a jej codzienność to regularna rehabilitacja. Od pięciu lat Berenika jest w trakcie wieloetapowego leczenia ortopedycznego w Niemczech. Dzięki serii operacji oraz specjalistycznym ortezom Berenika samodzielnie chodzi. Kilka razy w roku musi też wyjeżdżać na intensywne turnusy rehabilitacyjne. Pomimo niedowładów nóg, zastawki w mózgu i szeregu innych schorzeń współistniejących, Berenika jest niebywale utalentowaną dziewczynką. Gra w teatrze dziecięcym, pięknie śpiewa i recytuje, płynnie posługuje się językiem angielskim, uwielbia czytać, reprezentuje swoją szkołę w licznych konkursach i jest wzorową uczennicą. Jej zainteresowania sięgają od baletu po mitologię grecką, wyobraźnia jest nieposkromiona, a największe marzenie to to, by kiedyś zatańczyć na prawdziwej scenie. Niestety, obecnie roczny koszt leczenia i rehabilitacji Bereniki dochodzi do 100.000 zł. Rodzinę Bereniki znam przez moją siostrę i jestem gotowa zaręczyć, że każdy grosz przelewany na pomoc, rodzice z miłością i zaangażowaniem wydają na leczenie, wsparcie i rozwój córki.
Berenika Borkowska is a twelve-year-old child, who since birth has been struggling with the consequences of spina bifida and hydrocephalus. She has already suffered through ten operations and her everyday life is spent in ongoing rehabilitation. She has been in a multi-stage orthopedic therapy in Germany for five years now. Thanks to several operations and special orthoses Berenika can walk on her own. Several times a year she needs to go on an intensive rehabilitation retreat. Despite the condition of her legs, valves in the brain and a number of other comorbidities, Berenika is an incredibly talented girl. She plays in a children’s theatre, sings songs and recites poems, she is fluent in English, she adores reading, represents her school in numerous competitions and is an exemplary student. Her interests range from ballet to Greek mythology, her imagination is unbridled, and her greatest dream is to dance on a real stage someday. Unfortunately, now the annual cost of Berenika’s treatments and rehabilitation can go up to 100.000 zloty (almost 25.000 euros). I know Berenika’ family through my sister and I can guarantee that every penny sent to help is spent by the parents with love and commitment on the treatment, support and development of their daughter.
